Pedal Queens 8 Week Santa Fe Century Training Program to begin next week (Monday, March 25th)

Our 2nd annual training program for the Santa Fe Century event will begin next week on Monday, March 25th! The program is 8 weeks and is FREE for current (2013) PQ paid memberships. We’ll have weekly group rides which will consist of: Monday Night Interval Rides, Wednesday Night Steady Pace Rides, and Saturday Morning Long Rides. In addition, we’ll provide an 8 week strength & stretch routine and skills clinics too!

St. Patrick’s Day Road Ride – Sunday, Mar. 17

2 options for our St. Patrick’s Day Road Ride:  22 miles (Buckman hills) OR 11 miles (easier/flatter)

For 22 miles meet at REI – SFe parking lot 9:45am; roll out 10 AM – we will meet with up other group at Las Campanas.

For 11 mile meet at mailboxes on Cam. La Tierra 10:15am; roll out 10:30 AM. Riders will meet up here and ride the loop around Las Campanas.

Pedal Queens Meet & Greet – Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 (6pm-7:30pm) REI Santa Fe Community Room

Yep, it’s 2013 and time for us to meet each other to plan some fun for the cycling season! We’ll have 2013 membership forms, sign up sheets for more involvement, and discuss/vote on what kind of rides, skills clinics, special events, etc. you’d like for us to provide. Pedal Queens Mountain Bike Clinic – Tuesday, Sept. 25 (5:15pm)

Meet at the Dale Ball corral (Sierra del Norte & Hyde Park Road aka Ski Basin Road) promptly at 5:15pm. Instructor Cat Downing will cover technical skills for riding on the Dale Ball trail system. Questions? Contact Cat at knobbyrider@comcast.net

Beginner Mountain Bike Program – Saturday Mornings (Apr 14 – May 19)

Have more FUN learning to mountain bike! Join us for Pedal Queens Women’s Beginner Mountain Bike Program – by women, for women. Learn the bike skills required in mountain biking, and build confidence with former pro-mountain biker Jessica Kisiel.

Four (4) lessons and two (2) group rides for only $25 for PQ members or $50 for non-members (fee includes PQ membership)!

 

Saturdays (from 9:00 am- 12:00 Noon) – Apr. 14, 21, 28 (group ride) & May 5, 12, 19 (group ride)

The series consists of weekly group instruction and rides. Each week a different set of skills will be covered. Completion of the program will develop the rider’s ability and confidence to successfully ride local trails. The first class (Sat. April 14) will be at Alto/Bicentennial Park. All other classes will be at La Tierra Trails (*Apr. 28 ride will be at another trail). This allows participants to learn & practice the skills covered on an actual trail. No off-road experience is necessary. The classes are instruction oriented where techniques are demonstrated and explained in detail; all participants will then attempt and re-attempt the techniques to optimize individual skill levels.

Students per class 4 min/12 max. The entire course will cover the following techniques:

  • Mountain bike preparation (safety checks)
  • Correct use of gears
  • Riding position/balance
  • Climbing and descending
  • Cornering techniques
  • Drop offs
  • Front wheel lifts
  • Riding single track

Supplies needed:

  • A properly working mountain bike
  • Helmet
  • Water bottle(s)/Camelbak
  • Bike shoes or closed toe shoes (no flip flops)
  • Cycling gloves
  • Flat repair kit
  • Snacks

Pedal Queens Santa Fe Century Training Kick off Party! March 21@ 6:00pm

Join us at Bike N Sport for Pedal Queens kick off event to train for the Santa Fe Century!
At our kick off event we’ll learn about our 8 week training schedule, which includes scheduled group rides, resistance & stretching program, & skills clinics. Plus we’ll have a presentation on nutrition, cool bicycling gadgetry, and check out some cool cycling duds. Hope you can join us for this AWESOME event! Attendees will have a chance to win some cool giveaways too!
